North of Nowhere is the latest release by Welsh artist Tim Thackray. Recorded over various sessions in the studio and at home, the record melds acoustics with electronic influences, creating mellow, expansive soundscapes. The record veers from haunting finger picked numbers such as title track North of Nowhere to big acoustic pop moments, such as Taking Your Own Time, an ode to the excuses we make for not following through with what we really want to do in life. Themes of optimism run through the songs, from the opener Smaller which reflects on Thackray’s experience of getting to know his local community following the pandemic to the reintroduction of wild bears to the Pyrenees. Other songs have a more personal touch - a lack of self worth underpins Sea Breeze whilst North of Nowhere explores identity and being unable to connect with the world lived in. The record ends on Hands, a love song situated with the backdrop of the 1960’s space race.

Recording initially began in 2020 at Pirate Studios in South London with production from singer songwriter Chris Hornsby, before being finished at home. All instruments played by Tim Thackray, with keys from Chris Hornsby.

Tim Thackray lives in North London alongside his wife and his cat. He plays bass in the alternative rock band Burntwood (formerly Modern Hinterland).
